A single mother-of-three was dumped by her boyfriend after a failed microblading treatment left her with four eyebrows.
42-year-old Jami Ledbetter from Kansas, Missouri told WDAF-TV that she was excited when her daughters purchased a $250 Groupon for her treatment last year as she was born without eyebrows.
Unfortunately, the discounted session went wrong and she was left with four eyebrows. In addition to crushing her self-esteem, it also made her boyfriend end their relationship.
Speaking about her multiple brows, Ledbetter said: “I would never wish this on my worst enemy. What it’s done to my self-confidence, it’s been hard.”
“I was devastated,” she continued. “I was even dating a guy, and he stopped dating me at that point.”
Using deposits of semi-permanent pigments under the skin’s first layer, microblading simulates the appearance of hair and creates a bolder and natural-looking eyebrow.
Prices can cost up to $1,000 for the first treatment but may vary according to location. Although it is not permanent, the results can last for one up to three years.
The mother believed the $250 Groupon was for a session with a woman who was ‘certified’ to do the job. However, the treatment is not regulated in Missouri.
She said she only went to work and grocery stores as she didn’t want other people to see her multiple eyebrows.
The mother also covered them up with makeup but she eventually found help from a woman who claimed she could ‘camouflage’ them. Unfortunately, her eyebrows ended up looking worse.
She was then referred to Kara Guitierrez, a licensed tattoo artist who specializes in permanent cosmetics, including tattoo removal.
“It took everything in me to hold back tears because this is the worst I’ve ever seen,” she expressed.
She used Li-ft, a pigment lightening solution, on the mother’s brows to remove them. Even though her eyebrows are now looking better, Ledbetter will still need to go to Gutierrez’0s salon three more times before the extra eyebrows are completely removed.
The woman who performed the botched treatment is no longer in business.
