A woman from New York thought of a strange idea to spread breast cancer awareness.
The lady installed a camera near her chest to record the facial expressions of people staring at her breasts as she strolled down the city as usual.
Whitney Zelig, 29, intentionally wore a revealing top, installed a camera near her cleavage and went for a walk through downtown Manhattan, recording the reactions of people checking out her cleavage.
After she saw what the camera had recorded, she was sure that a large portion of the population of Manhattan knew the exact specifications of her breasts.
However, that was not the purpose of the whole thing. The actual reason for doing this was to make a video emphasizing the importance of regular self-inspection in the prevention of breast cancer.
The chances of survival are greatly enhanced if the disease is discovered beforehand.
The video Whitney made starts with her walking through the Manhattan area and then it shifts to the reactions of people looking at her breasts. The on-lookers are men, women and even a dog.
The purpose of the video is made clear by the caption, which says: “Ladies, don’t forget to check out your own breasts too. Early detection saves lives.”
National Breast Cancer Foundation statistics reveal that a shocking one-eighth of all US women have breast cancer at least once in their life.
Even more alarming are the stats from Cancer Research UK, according to which one in every seven UK women is clinically diagnosed with breast cancer.
But the thing is, these stats do not suggest that all these women have to die of cancer.
Just like Whitney said in her video’s caption, if diagnosed in the early stages, breast cancer has a very high chance of being treated.
Whitney went to such lengths to make the video partly because her mother cheated death after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Mainly due to this reason and also some others, Whitney partnered up with her brother Chris and a friend CJ Koegel to make the video in hopes of creating awareness among people.
It can be safely assumed that they did achieve their goal up to some level.
CJ and Chris also made a similar video in 2014 for the same purpose. That time, it was about prostate cancer, the caption advised the viewers to take care of their own butts instead of staring at others’.
Whitney’s video has been watched over 14 million times so far which suggests she did manage to raise some awareness.
