One woman came up with a very pretty good idea to stop her husband going to his local pub.
Jayne Tapper,48 is a nurse from Newton Abbot, Devon was just tired of seeing her husband going to the local pub all the time. So she decided to build one in the back yard of their home.
The cabin-style pub is called Doghouse Inn, it was built in five months and now hosts parties for Jayne’s husband.
Jayne said: ‘‘My husband Paul, 53, an engineer, had always loved popping down to our local and I could never seem to keep him at home. And so I got thinking – why not create my own pub, become my own landlady and then I can really tell people – my husband’s in the doghouse!’’
‘‘We’d had to get the garden leveled out anyway, which had been expensive and it seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to play out what I’d always wanted.’’
‘‘He won’t want to go to the local anymore – we have three basset hounds and a mate was able to create us a sign for the front of the pub, with one of our dogs, Rufus on.’’
‘‘Then I worked on making it like a proper pub – because to start with, it was just like a log house. But I wanted people to be astounded so we continued to transform it into a mini pub.’’
Jayne’s three children, Tom, 31, Lorren, 24 and Jack, 26, love the pub too and they invite their friends to get a drink without spending cash. The family thinks that they will not have to pay for expensive drinks anymore as they have their own pub.
She said: ‘’I’m always finding things for the little pub. It has become more than just a man cave for Paul – I love using it too and I’d quite happily spend most nights in there. It’s great to chill in and it really does feel like I’m in my local.’’
