Inspiring Woman Shared How She Managed To Buy A $390,000 House On Her Own

30-year-old Emily Jones was a shopaholic until she realized that she wanted to buy her own house – and she did it! She managed to buy a £299,995 ($390,000) house after she ditched her £300 a month apartment.

It took Emily three years to save enough money but she really pushed it hard during the last twelve months.

Aside from moving back home with her mother, the first-time buyer cut living costs even further by only seeing her friends when they visit her instead of going out. The 30-year-old also stopped buying new clothes and other items she doesn’t really need to save £600 to £1,000 a month.

Emily also stopped getting her nails done and sold loads of stuff online, such as her old bags and clothes, and her keyboard.

In an interview with The Sun, Emily said: “Buying a place on my own meant I had to put down a bigger deposit, which meant I had to save harder to get enough money together.

“It was hard giving so much up, just because you get used to a certain lifestyle, but now that I have my own house I can really see that it was so worth it.”

Emily took out a Help to Buy equity loan of £60,000 and the developers put  £10,000 to the total contract price as an incentive.

Her two-bed newbuild house has three bathrooms with a front garden and a bigger one at the back.

Thanks to Help to Buy loan, she got the house near to where she grew up.

“The house was on the market for £299,950 and I put down a 15 per cent deposit of £47,000,” she said. “This was made up of £37,000 of my savings and £10,000 from the developers.”

She added: “I’d say, definitely talk to the developers if you’re slightly short on the money because you may be able to get a deal.”

What asked what it feels like, she answered: “It was a great feeling but also so weird. I had the keys in my hand and was like, now what do I do?

“I’d been to see the house a few times before so I knew what it looked like. I was so excited that it’s mine.”
