A 54-year-old woman called 911 using her toes after a tragic accident that took place in South Carolina.
The unnamed woman, from Charlotte, North Carolina, was driving on a rural stretch of I-95 in South Carolina when she got a flat tire.
She decided to change the tire and while replacing it, a jack holding up the car slipped and her hands were crushed by her car.
The woman’s hands got stuck between the tire and the fender.
She called for help using her feet and dialed 911.
Fire-rescue crews arrived at the scene in less than 10 minutes and the fire department had to use a hydraulic machine to free her.
The woman, who was trapped for around 45 minutes, suffered severe injuries to her hands and fingers.
The woman was removing the flat tire to replace it with the spare tire when the tragic incident happened. The car fell down after a jack slipped, causing her hands to get crushed by her car.
A spokesman said in a statement: “She removed the flat tire and was replacing it with the spare when the jack slipped causing the car to fall, crushing both of her hands between the tire and the fender.”
The first responders deflated the tire to remove the air and then used a prybar. They managed to free the woman’s one hand.
Then another fire crew managed to free the woman’s second hand using a hydraulic spreader.
“They [first responders] used a prybar without success and then deflated the tire to remove the air, however the car just dropped as the tire deflated. Using the prybar, they were able to free one hand”, the spokesman added.
She was rushed to a hospital for the treatment of her injuries.
