A couple and their baby were only seconds away from death when they made a miraculous escape after a woman prevented the drunk driver’s car from hitting them.
The horrifying crash occurred around 10 pm and was captured by a traffic camera.
27-year-old Shannon Vivar, her mother Shirley, and Shannon’s 3-year-old child were driving from Walmart when they noticed a Jeep running a red light and was about to hit a couple with a stroller.
“I don’t remember if I sped up or pushed the brake, but once I got hit, I was lost,” Shannon, who sustained non-life threatening injuries, expressed. The only thing that prevented the tragedy from happening was that she decided to crash into the drunk driver’s vehicle.
The drunk driver, Ernesto Otanez Ovaso tried to flee the scene. He even threatened to stab the witnesses.
Ovaso is currently under arrest on suspicion of DUI.
Shannon saved the family but she doesn’t consider herself a hero. “Even though it wasn’t my intention to, the way I see it was, it was meant to happen that way,” she expressed.
One Facebook user commented: “This happened in my state, I was shocked when I saw the video. I fully believe the driver of the Chevy Cruz rammed into the car last second to protect the people. I know I probably would.”
Another wrote: “The driver clearly speeds up at the last second and slightly cuts the wheel to the right in to the path of the Jeep. I think this was a completely intentional act to get the Jepp out of the path of the family. Heroic act indeed, to put themselves in harms way to save someone else!
A third said: “I think this is more of a miracle rather than the person doing it on purpose. They were just going through a green light and thankfully were there at just the right time. Still pretty amazing.”
