A woman was caught keeping 130 cats in her flat in Moscow, Russia.
It all started when she adopted a pregnant cat about four years ago. A mother feline and some kittens running around your small city apartment doesn’t sound bad but the number of cats exploded when they grew up and started breeding.
The divorcee’s one-bedroom apartment was eventually filled with cats that were all fighting for a space to rest.
But it was not the noise of more than a hundred cats that caused the woman’s flat being discovered – it was the odor!
Residents reported strong smells coming from the woman’s apartment and she was then caught hoarding 130 cats!
Anastasia Soloviyeva, an animal carer, has helped rescue around 50 cats from the apartment. However, it is hard to find forever homes for all.
Her colleague Irina Medvedeva said: “We found about 130 half-starved, but very affectionate cats. The animals were in terrible condition.
“Despite the fact that they had a corridor, a kitchen, and a bedroom, there were still too many of them to exist comfortably.
“We managed to take out and distribute some of them, but about 80 more remain inside.”
Charity Zoo Defenders also launched a campaign to raise funds to rehouse the ginger cats.
The woman should’ve done what a couple in the United Kingdom did when they wanted to provide their felines with enough space to play and stretch their furry legs.
51-year-old Richard and 53-year-old Sue created a 9ft-high cage which they have installed in their garden to give their four cats enough space to have fun.
“We didn’t do it on the cheap. We paid over the odds for our house so that we could do what we’ve done without affecting anybody else,” Sue said.
“We don’t want to upset anyone, we just want to live a quiet life and for our cats to be happy. They really love the space, there are lots of things for them to play with.
“Most of our neighbours think the cage is a great idea, there are just a few who have a problem with it.”
