Louise Signore from New York City just celebrated her 107th birthday and shared her secret to a long life.
She also gave some advice for other women who want to live a longer life: “Do not become a bride!”
Speaking to WCBS, she said: “I think the secret of 107 [is] I never got married. I think that’s the secret. My sister says, ‘I wish I never got married!’”
She celebrated her 107th birthday on Wednesday and said that while she exercises regularly and maintains a healthy diet, it is never having had to fret about a man that’s kept her going.
Signore said that even though she’s taking a high blood pressure pill and is legally blind, she doesn’t let her condition slow her down.
“If they have exercise, I do the exercise. If they have dancing, I dance. I still do a little dancing,” she said. “After my lunch, I will play bingo, so I had a full day.”
More than 100 people attended her 107th birthday party at the JASA Bartow Community Center, according to the station.
Signore wore a pink collared top for the occasion as she sat under golden balloons.
She is not the only centenarian who has given advice for a long life by staying single.
Jessie Gallan, who passed away in 2015 aged 109, credited her long life with ‘staying away from men.’ She said: “They’re just more trouble than they’re worth.”
Gladys Gough, who died at 104, also said: “I never got married or had a boyfriend either. That probably had something to do with it. I just couldn’t be bothered with men.”
