A bride-to-be’s photo has sparked a long but interesting debate about whether the size matters when it comes to making proposals after her picture of engagement ring with a small stone emerged on Reddit.
She captioned the photo: “We been together for eight years and talking about getting married for almost three.
“This the ring he said he saved up to buy me.
“Am I being shady or materialistic if I tell this mf I don’t want this little a** ring?”
The thought-provoking topic was even brought up on Good Morning Britain where presenters Charlotte Hawkins and Richard Madeley talked about the importance of the diamond size.
Good Morning Britain wrote on Twitter: “A woman divided opinion online after complaining about the small diamond ring her fiancé gave her.
“Does the size of an engagement ring matter? and would you be happy with this ring? Let us know.”
Condemning the bride-to-be for complaining about the size of her diamond ring, Charlotte said: “I think that’s mean.”
Richard then laughed and said: “It’s the smallest diamond I’ve ever seen!”
People online argued that size really matters, with one writing: “Of course it does, who wants to wear a s*** ring for the rest of your life?”
Another joked: “Is she certain it’s a diamond? Looks more like a sugar granule.”
A third said: “I wouldn’t even try that on.”
Many people backed Charlotte, with one saying: “She needs to get her priorities straight. Be grateful he’s wanting to commit to her rather than focusing on the size of the rock. I’d be happy with a £10 ring from Tesco. It’s the meaning behind it. Shallow woman.”
Another wrote: “Only materialistic women will say yes! It shouldn’t matter about the size or cost of a ring… surely all that should matter is LOVE.”
A third said: “What an ungrateful woman this is.. She should be happy that someone wants to marry her! The diamond maybe small, but then the husband to be has make room in that marriage for her big head, and ego the size of the universe!”
