A woman has revealed how she managed to conceive her third baby while already several days pregnant with her twins.
As the mother-to-be, who goes under the name of @theblondebunny1 on TikTok, revealed in her viral video, she initially became pregnant with twins. 10 days later, thanks to an extremely rare phenomenon known as superfetation, the woman conceived another baby who is technically younger than its siblings even though they are being considered as triplets.
“The first two babies are 10 and 11 days older than our third baby, so that’s how we knew straight away it was a second pregnancy,” the mother-to-be said.
“To confirm it was superfetation and not just twin absorption or a malnourished baby, the doctors have been doing ultrasounds every two weeks.
“And, sure enough, it’s been hitting every single milestone, growing at a healthy rate, just 10 to 11 days behind the first two babies we have.”
Superfetation refers to the formation of a fetus while an existing fetus(es) is/are already in the womb. While ovaries normally stop releasing eggs after fertilization, another egg may in some cases be released after conception. In case that egg also gets fertilized with sperm, a woman can become pregnant while already pregnant.
As the mother-to-be in question explained in her other clips, she and her husband conceived their babies naturally.
“I just happen to hyper-ovulate and ovulate twice in a month, so that is how I got pregnant already after already getting pregnant with twins. Your hormones are supposed to stop you from ovulating. Mine did not,” she added.
The mom-to-be also insisted her children will be raised as triplets even though they have different due dates.
“Although it’s two separate pregnancies, they will be referred to as triplets because they’re going to be all born on the same day,” she explained.
“When we raise them, we’re going to raise them all as triplets, love them equally, but one day we will tell them the story. I want them to know. It’s such a special, unique circumstance.”
