Things left by our ancestors are always gold and can sometimes fetch a hefty sum.
However, the only thing that keeps us from our fortune is that the most of us don’t know the actual value of the possession until it’s too late.
However, one woman from Pennsylvania was lucky that one of her antique possessions were correctly appraised at the ‘Antiques Roadshow.’ The television series held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center saw more than 5000 people arriving to have their treasure appraised.
A young woman brought a family painting to the show and was left astonished by what the evaluator had to say about the painting.
Meredith Hilferty, the evaluator, appraised the painting the woman had brought which was passed down to her after her grandmother died.
She said that the painting has always hung right above her bed. She said that her grandmother’s dad would have given the painting to her when she was 19 during the 40’s.
Meredith asked her if she had appraised the painting before. The woman said that the painting was first appraised in 1998 as a print at $200 and in 2004 at $250.
The family painting the woman was in possession was no ordinary painting but an artwork of French artist Henry Francosi. He is a famous painter of the late 1800s and he made that painting when he was living in Pennsylvania.
He had made friends with the Seneca and Sious Indians and was living with the tribes in a very peaceful way.
When Meredith told the young woman that the painting was worth $200000 to $300000, she didn’t know how to react to that. She was in loss of words and was in tears after hearing that.
Well, she is one lucky woman, don’t you think!
