The coach of the middle school volleyball team at the Kepler neighborhood school in Fresno said that he has never taken any volleyball team in his whole career to jogging on the Tuolumne Street Bridge but on April 4, as Coach Elliot Murray narrates, fate played its game.
On that day, somehow that coach thought of taking the volleyball team for jogging at the Tuolumne Street Bridge as a part of their regular drill, but none of them anticipated the heroic act that was going to take place.
As every day, the children of the 7th and 8th grade who have qualified for the volleyball team were running on the bridge as a part of their practice.
While they were busy with their workout, they saw a woman standing on the edge of the bridge. The woman saw at them and waved, and the children waved her back and carried on with their regular exercise.
But the next moment when the children turned around, they saw the woman dangling by the edge of the bridge and was preparing to jump off the bridge.
As soon as the children saw this, they alerted their coach who immediately called 911 and asked the children to pacify the woman. The children ran towards the woman and requested her to not jump from the bridge.
They keep on shouting to the woman and begged her not jump. They said that her life was precious and mattered no matter how hardship she is going through.
The children gathered around and asked the woman not to jump. After 10-minutes of continuous request, the lady finally climbed back as a result of the kind words of the children. A few moments later the police arrived and appraised the children for their bravery. The woman is undergoing mental treatment.
As per Coach Elliot, he has never felt so proud of being a coach as he is feeling for this mid school volleyball team.
