A young woman has passed away from cervical cancer after her doctor allegedly dismissed her worries and concerns 15 times.
22-year-old Emma Swain from the UK died a year after getting diagnosed with cervical cancer back in 2013.
As it came to light, Swain’s doctor at London’s The Haling Park Partnership dismissed the young woman’s concerns and dubbed them the ‘Jade Goody effect’ back in 2013 when she wanted to get a smear test after suffering from bleeding and back pain after intercourse.
Following the dismissal of her worries, Emma allegedly contacted the doctor 14 more times over the period of four months only to be told that she’s too young for the potentially life-saving test.
While the doctor in question originally insisted that the 22-year-old’s symptoms were due to her contraceptive pills, the GP has since allegedly admitted their mistake saying Swain could still be alive if she had been granted a smear test when she first sought it.
“To have watched one of your children go through that and to know it could have been prevented is incredibly hard to accept,” Emma’s father, 51-year-old Darren, told The Mirror.
“We trusted these people – the professionals – to know what they were doing. I’ll never forgive them.”
After the 22-year-old’s premature death, The Haling Park Partnership apologized to the family and insisted that they have taken actions to “ensure lessons have been learned.”
“Basically, he told her she was worrying over nothing. He couldn’t have been more wrong. It cost Emma her life,” Darren added.
