Woman Hid Her Wealth From Her Family And Donated Millions To Charity After Death


A woman who lived a quiet life had been hiding her wealth from her entire family for decades before donating nearly $10 million to charities after her death.

87-year-old Sheila Woodcock from Australia was a one-of-a-kind millionaire who lived a calm private life and rarely talked about her wealth.

What her family didn’t know, however, was that Sheila had nearly $10 million [AUD $14 million] in her bank account as she passed away.

Rather than giving it all away to her family members, the woman, who had no kids of her own, donated all of it to 15 charities towards a good cause.

“The charities were gobsmacked but when they realize it’s 14 other charities… it’s awe-inspiring,” Kent Woodcock, Sheila’s second cousin, said in an interview with The Newcastle Herald.

“I don’t think anybody [here] has ever done something like this and I don’t think we’ll ever see it again. It’s not sadness at her passing, it’s: ‘Look what she’s done, look what she’s doing.’”

As the man added according to The Daily Mail, the kind woman’s family knew she was well-off but they never thought her to possess millions in her bank account.

After the news of the substantial donations spread, Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp shared the following statement on Facebook:

“Often people will leave some money to charity when they pass away, but Sheila Woodcock took that to a whole other level.

“Sheila lived in Bar Beach and passed in 2018, bequesting an amazing $14m to 15 community organizations, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, the NSW Cancer Council and NSW Guide Dogs.”
