Many people would do anything to help those who appear distressed even if they are nothing but total strangers.
In 2016, one such family opened their hearts to a 22-year-old woman, Kiley White, who pleaded for their help saying she needed someone to take care of her 4-year-old daughter.
After meeting Kiley, mother Tammy Yoney felt heartbroken by what the 22-year-old claimed. According to Tammy, Kiley told the family that she was dying of terminal cancer and that she had no one left to take care of her daughter after she’s gone.
After hearing Kiley’s story, Tammy couldn’t help but relate as her 22-year-old daughter, Morgan, was also amid a battle for her life.
The family eventually agreed to accommodate Kiley, help her out financially, and even bring her into their home. As their bond grew stronger and stronger, Kiley also asked Tammy if she could adopt the young girl after she’d passed away. The compassionate family obliged despite already being overloaded from taking care of Morgan.
“As a mother, you can’t help but to help someone in the situation because she told us she didn’t have anybody,” Tammy said.
What Tammy and her family didn’t know, however, is that Kiley was full of lies and that her story was a complete scam.
The web of lies came crashing down after the Yoneys received a call explaining that Kiley was a con artist who had been stealing from people by making them believe she’s terminally ill and incapable of taking care of her baby.
“She’s taken so much of our time, it just makes me sick,” the mother said.
After the incident came to light, the woman escaped and it took several more victims and two years before she was arrested and charged with theft by deception and harassment.
“She needs to be off the streets, she’s hurting too many people,” Tammy added.
