In November 2019, Sophie Clayton had a nosebleed that caused a rare disorder and she completely forgot the first 26 years of her life.
After the nosebleed, her brain disconnected from the nervous system that made her forget her name, her parents, and her boyfriend of two years, Jonathan Wilson.
Sophie from Surrey, who worked in the control room for the London Ambulance Service before the nosebleed, is now on a road to recovery and is falling in love with her boyfriend again.
Her boyfriend, Jonathan recreated their ’50 First Dates’ and took her back to the places where they met so she could fall in love with him again.
Sophie, who is now recovering well, says she is upset that she forgot the first 26 years of her life but she is looking forward to creating new memories.
Sophie said: “My friends have said that our relationship is just like 50 First Dates and I can definitely see the resemblance. I’m falling back in love with Jonathan all over again which is so lovely.”
Sophie told that Jonathan took her to see the beach for the ‘first’ time and it was an amazing experience for her.
Doctors have no idea when her memory will come back but Sophie is now focusing on recreating and making new memories.
She says her life started three months ago and she is loving it.
Talking about the day when she forgot everything, Sophie said: “I don’t normally have nosebleeds. My nose had been bleeding for about 15 to 20 minutes and blood suddenly started pouring out of my left eye.”
“I asked her for my phone so I could ring work and let them know I wouldn’t be coming in. Mum gave me my phone and I just couldn’t remember the numbers – my mind had gone blank.”
Later, the doctors told that she had functional neurological disorder (FND) that caused her to completely forget the first 26 years of her life.
When her dad and her boyfriend came to the hospital, she couldn’t recognize them. She started crying because she was unable to remember anyone.
She said: “Jonathan told me that he loved me and I said that I loved him too, and then he held my hand whilst my dad explained everything the doctors had said so far.”
“I was in a room full of strangers including myself and it was absolutely terrifying.”
However, things are changing and Sophie is trying to know everyone again. She fell in love with her boyfriend again and is looking forward to the future.
