As 19-year old Jean Hilliard was driving home after visiting a friend, she met an accident on her way back.
She skidded off the road that had become very icy with the temperature that had gone as low as -22°F.
She feared that she might quickly freeze to death in her car, she decided to come out the car and thus walk towards a friend’s house. She walked downslope the icy nature to seek refuge at one of his friend’s house which was just nearby the scene.
Little did she know that the house was almost 2 miles away from the scene. She was now to walk in the freezing weather for all this time alone.
She tried her best and fought through the blistering cold winter and managed to be just 15 feet away from the house. Her legs had been clogged to the fullest, and the helpless teen collapsed at that moment.
Due to the weather, very few were easily seen walking outside. It took about six hours before her friends could discover her body lying down on the ice curbed surface. The body was lying facing down.
It happened early in the morning at around seven and it was when Wally Nelson was leaving to work. She recognized Hilliard body lying down in the driveway.
Due to the freezing weather, Hilliard’s Joints had crisped and could not easily be bent. He quickly loaded him into the car and drove faster to the hospital for first aid.
Nelson later realized that Hilliard’s face was looking like a ghost. He said the doctors were looking taking the role to save her life but the not so much skeptical of her recovery.
He remembered that everything on Hilliard’s body was just worse. Her skin contracted so hard that an IV could not be used on her. Her stagnant and could not detect any response towards lights, and to make it worse, her too was extremely low to be taken by the clinical thermometers.
“She was frozen solid,” Dr. George Sather said. It became an impossibility to open her mouth or even to raise her hands. She was like a log that has been covered by ice for years.
Her family upon receiving the information, they requested friends to help them in payers for the recovery of their daughter. By 9:00 am, they had received a total of 30 people who volunteered to pray together with the family.
The doctors too were highly concerned about Hilliard’s life. They then decided to wrap her up in an electric heating pad. Perhaps it can help boost her temperature to a precise number.
They waited for about two to three hours, and the unexpected occurred. A heartbeat was felt from the Hilliard.
With time, Hilliard started responding to the heat she was gaining. She began to make some low toned noises and also a response to her parents. However recovering, she was taking up breaths too slowly. The rate of just 12 per minute was too slow for these medics.
Just like any other miracles we’ve witnessed in movies, Hilliard continued to gain consciousness consistently. She remembered crazy things that people asked her. Some extended it to even asking her whom she was and the likes.
She continued that she was asked several times by many people whom she knew quite well. She also said that she knew clearly whom she was and did not expect to be asked such likes questions.
But Hilliard still had a lot more awaiting her. Her legs showed so much severity that they needed amputation.
But another miracle happened, the frostbite seen in her legs just disappeared out completely.
The doctor remarked that having Hilliard escape all those was such pleasant experience. Dr. Ryan Kelly remarkably said that has not even lost a finger during the whole scene is such a great thing.
She later spent fifty-five more days in the hospital before moving. Out which six days she was still in the emergency room. She got home wholly unarmed.
Since then, Hilliard has thanked all who lead to his survival not forgetting those prayed for her too.
