37-year-old Tammi Bleimeyer has been sentenced to 28 years in jail after she starved her 5-year-old stepson, forced him to wear a diaper, and locked him in a tiny closet under the stairs.
The mother-of-seven was found guilty of inflicting injury to a child by omission after forcing Jordan Bleimeyer, now 9, to sleep under the stairs or the ‘Harry Potter room.’
The small space had exposed wiring and nails surrounding a tiny mattress. Doctors said the child only weighed 29 pounds and had almost starved to death. They compared Jordan’s condition to a Holocaust survivor.
Jordan’s father, Bradley Bleimeyer, pleaded guilty to the same charge in 2016 and was sentenced to 15 years in jail.
The tremendous case first came to light in 2014 when Bleimeyer’s son, who was then 16 years old, reported his mother to the police.
He said his stepbrother was being abused by his 24-year-old stepfather and mother, claiming Jordan was forced to wear a diaper and sleep under the stairs.
Bleimeyer, who was pregnant at that time, took the boy from home and didn’t return when cops showed up. Investigators were able to track her to a nearby motel, where they saw her and Jordan.
The child was covered in bruises and bumps and severely underweight. He was taken to a hospital, where a pediatrician said Jordan had suffered “severe physical abuse and habitual starvation.”
Doctors said the child could have died within a few days if he hadn’t been rescued on time.
Prosecutors revealed that Jordan was never allowed to eat at the table with his siblings, who were all Bleimeyer’s kids. She only gave him a slice of bread per day, which she would take away if he didn’t take it fast enough.
The 16-year-old son also reported to police he believed someone had slammed his stepbrother’s head into the wall and also stunned him with a Taser.
Bleimeyer broke down in the Harris County Courthouse after the verdict was announced and two of her children took the stand.
One of her sons said in a statement: “It’s no mystery why we’re all here. You made a big mistake, and ultimately have to face the consequences.
“I’m up here to ask a rhetorical question of how, how could you put your children through all that? The people who should be your pride and joy.”
He added: “You caused me feelings of sadness, anger, confusion, and emptiness. I can’t say that I’ll ever be the same emotionally because of this.”
