28-year-old Karina Rodini has been left crippled after tumors started swallowing her legs.
Her tumors even doubled in size.
Rodini from Brazil was sacked from her work and has been unable to find true love because of her medical condition.
“I was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis when I was only two years old,” she shared.
“At first it was only ‘coffee milk’ patches so the doctor couldn’t do anything because there were no lumps or tumours.”
Rodini suffers from type one of the condition, a genetic disease marked by changes of the color of the skin and also growth of non-cancerous tumors. It affects 1 in 4000 people globally.
The growths began to show up 9 years later. When she was 12, Rodini underwent a surgery to get rid of one that weighed around 9kg from her uterus.
Her mother, Fatima, had to quit her job so she could take care of her daughter.
“All these years, it has been very hard to see how the disease is consuming my daughter,” Fatima said.
“Her left eye she has low visibility because of the disease. She walks very slowly because the leg is too heavy.
“She also suffers from shortness of breath when she has to walk more than 20 minutes or climb stairs.”
Karina has undergone seven surgical procedures already. “Every two to three years I have a repairing surgery, the doctor removes approximately 1 kilo of tissue.
“He says it is the maximum he can remove due to the amount of blood that is lost.”
The family is now searching for help from doctors abroad. But in India, the overall price for her to be treated is £30,000.
A GoFundMe page was launched for her to fund the procedure overseas.
