A customer who was filmed opening an ice cream tub and licking it before placing it back in a freezer in Walmart has been identified, according to police.
Cops from the Lufkin Police Department didn’t name the shopper due to her age but said they won’t charge her as an adult.
According to the department, the girl is tied to the area through the family of her boyfriend, who filmed the prank.
Both the girl and her boyfriend were said to be cooperative with authorities. They admitted to the act and told them exactly what happened.
Had the department chose to charge them with an adult count of tampering with consumer goods, the girl could have faced a sentence of between 2 and 20 years and fine up to $10,000.
Authorities will give her case to the juvenile justice department who will decide whether or not to pursue charges.
According to police, identifying the woman behind the act was difficult as there were many people who have the same screen name and looks as her.
“It was actually the catfish and NOT our suspect who bragged on Instagram about the incident saying: “Yeah, I really did that. You can call it Flu Bell ice cream now ‘cause I was a lil sick last week. Repost yourself doing this. Let’s see if we can start an epidemic (literally),” said the department.
“We do not intend to pursue charges against her as an “adult” and therefore what happens from here is at the discretion of the juvenile justice system.
“We cannot speak for them as to what charge she will face in the juvenile justice system. As to whether her boyfriend will face charges, we are currently discussing his involvement with prosecutors.”
The police said on a post that Blue Bell removed all half-gallons of ‘Tin Roof’ product from the shelves in Lufkin Walmart.
