“By 23 I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. And by 25 I was going through a divorce “I’d reached my lowest ebb and went from very stable to feeling lost.”

Holly beat her illness and was given the all-clear. In 2006, she co-founded Not On The High Street that has now become one of the UK’s biggest online shopping sites.

Initially, she set up a local market to sell her vegetable wreaths. She even held a Chiswick Christmas Fair and it was a huge success.

Holly then set up a new business, Your Local Fair, and held fairs all across London.

She says: “The only trouble with Your Local Fair was that these small businesses would make money on sunny weekend days, but the rest of the time wouldn’t sell anything.”

So, she decided to create a platform where people could sell their craft and make money the whole year. With the help of her colleague Sophie Cornish, she created Not On The High Street.

The pair took loans, borrowed money from family and friends, and remortgage their houses and invested £70,000 each in their new business.
