It seemed like tragedy was following and haunting Aminah Hart.
At every turn in her life, far too much heartache and pain followed her. When her first son Marlon was just 4 months old, he tragically passed away. Aminah’s relationship with Marlon’s father did not survive the tragedy. When Aminah met another man, they tried for a second child. However, Louis only managed to live until 14 months before he passed away as his brother did. Aminah grew distant and eventually her relationship with Louis’ father ended as well.
After all of that pain and heartache, Aminah was finally given a tiny amount of relief when her doctors were able to tell her what had caused her two sons’ deaths. Aminah had a genetic disorder that she had a chance to give to her children. Aminah explained to the DailyMail.
You can’t really put it into words. I had two relationships and two children, but it wasn’t until the second one that I got a diagnosis of the genetic disorder.
Still, though this diagnosis did little to help ease the pain Aminah was feeling.
Aminah was now 42 years old, single and with no children of her own.
When Aminah was growing up, all she could ever imagine was being an incredible mother to her children, but now it seemed like the dream was further away than ever. That’s when Aminah realized she needed to figure out what she was going to do.The genetic disorder meant that Aminah would have a 1 in 4 chance that her child may be born with the same disorder and suffer the same tragic fate.
But if she didn’t try, she would have to give up on her dream of becoming a mother…[rsnippet id=”4″ name=”DFP/34009881/Article_1″][rsnippet id=”7″ name=”fb-like-and-share”]
Aminah Hart was no stranger to tragedy and pain of immense loss.
Aminah and her first husband conceived Marlon, their first baby.
However Marlon wasn’t destined for this world and after 4 short months, Marlon died due to a hereditary genetic disorder. The doctors, for some reason, didn’t tell Aminah the cause.Unfortunately, the loss of their baby was too much and Aminah and her first husband divorced shortly after.
After a lot of heartache and healing, Aminah found a new partner and decided to try another go at having a child.
Their second baby, Louis was born. However tragically like his brother Marlon, Louis died just 14 months later. That’s when doctors discovered that Marlon and Louis had a rare condition called x-linked myotubular myopathy.
Now at the age of 42, Aminah had to make a decision.
She was childless and single, but she wasn’t without hope. She didn’t have much of a choice, but to do it alone.
Still, the decision was a difficult one and required her to think deeply. If she did opt to try again, there was a 1 in 4 chance that her child would suffer from the same condition that Louis and Marlon did.And with that, all of the heartache and pain would come rushing back even more intense.
Aminah told the DailyMail,
It took me a long time to make the decision and I considered everything: my age, social status and that I carried a fatal genetic disorder.. I had the understanding that I wasn’t a great prospect.

That’s when Aminah decided to get a sperm donor.
So in 2011, Aminah finally decided on a sperm donor.
The winner was Scott Andersen, a man Aminah never met before.
Her pregnancy went fine and soon Leila was born, Aminah’s third child, but first daughter. Leila was truly a blessing as it became evident that Leila did not suffer from the genetic disorder. Then in 2013 after much prodding, Aminah’s mother convinced her to finally meet Scott.
Scott had indicated that he would be more than happy to meet the mother and the child born from his donation.During their first meeting, Aminah was sure to bring little Leila along. The connection was immediate and obvious. Aminah knew that she needed to visit Scott more often so he could meet his daughter. One thing led to another and soon, Aminah and Scott were dating.
We fell in love. It was surreal but an incredible experience.
For a woman who went through so much pain and suffering, it’s incredible that she was able to live out her dream as a mother and find true love.
