A young couple has successfully tied the knot over the internet without ever seeing each other in person.
24-year-old Detroit-based Darrin and 26-year-old UK-based Ayse are breaking the norms after tying the knot in an online ceremony.
Despite the fact that the couple never saw each other in person, Darrin and Ayse are convinced they did the right thing when they decided to take the next step in their relationship by marrying each other in a virtual ceremony via Zoom.
As the couple explained, they met online in the summer of 2020. Though they quickly became good friends, things didn’t stop there and their relationship continued to bloom.
Soon, the pair would conquer the time difference and become inseparable despite never meeting in person.
After months of dating, Darrin decided to bend the knee and propose to his girlfriend during one of their online dates – And, naturally, Ayse said yes!
The couple then took another brave decision as they decided to risk it all and get married in a virtual legally-binding ceremony knowing that it could take a long time before they could travel and see each other in person due to the pandemic.
On August 19, 2021, Darrin and Ayse officially became husband and wife in front of their supportive family members and friends.
“I never imagined this would happen to me in a million years. I don’t think anyone expected this when we started talking last year. But we’re married and it’s all completely legal and official – I still can’t believe it,” Ayse said of her unique experience.
“It’s been really hard not being able to meet properly, but in the long run it will make us stronger because we’ve had to go through all of this to be together. We just really love each other.”
She added: “We’ll make sure we celebrate together when we can – but for now, this was perfect. I still can’t believe it – I never expected any of this but you’ve got to take what life throws at you.”
Though the couple have yet to see each other in person for the first time, they remain hopeful that their first meeting is drawing close and that Ayse, who was previously rejected by the U.S. Immigration due to a lack of funds in her bank account, will make it across the pond soon.
“Looking back it seems like so long ago we started as pen pals and now we’re battling against the world together,” Darrin expressed.
“As we haven’t met in person yet we haven’t been able to have a physical relationship, which means that our marriage is based off of more than that.
“This hasn’t affected our relationship like it could do others, as it’s not something we see as the most important aspect, and we value other things, such as communication, more.point 406 |
