A 56-year-old woman has shared her experience with memory loss and it breaks everyone’s heart.
In October 2018, Kim Harris Denicola experienced a headache which led to blurred vision.
After she fainted in a church parking lot, she was hospitalized in Baton Rouge.
As she woke up, Kim didn’t remember a single thing of the past 40 years of her life.
A nurse asked: “Do you know what year it is?”, she said, “Yes, it’s 1980.”
All she knew was – she was 18 and Ronald Reagan was president.
She forgot everything about her wedding, children, and grandchildren.
“It’s kind of depressing because you think you’ve lost all those years. I have two biological children that I didn’t know I had” Kim told WAFB.
Her family was left heartbroken. They tried to bring back her memories by showing some old photos but nothing happened.
She was then diagnosed with transient global amnesia, “a sudden, temporary episode of memory loss,” according to Mayo Clinic.
Kim is now relearning everything. Though she doesn’t remember a thing, she still has a positive attitude.
“If the memories don’t come back, I can make new ones,” she told Inside Edition.
