41-year-old Abby Adair Reinhard has shared the details about the final hours of his father who passed away from coronavirus.
She revealed how she and her family said their last farewells on the phone as they were unable to see him in hospital.
Writing on Facebook, Abby shared: “My dad just died from COVID-19. Here below is my chronicle of the last two days. Stay safe. Sending love.”
She documented the agony of those two days leading up to her father’s demise, sharing how she and her family stayed on the phone with him, praying while listening for his breathing.
Abby started sharing posts on April 5 after her dad tested positive for the deadly disease.
“The terror I’ve felt today is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced, and I can only imagine how hard it has been for you, Dad,” she wrote. “I’m so sorry you are going through this nightmare.
“You went to the hospital after falling, and you were supposed to be discharged soon. But COVID spread, unsuspected, down the hall, before you had a chance.”
She continued: “This morning, I got the call and your dire prognosis. “Aspiration… deterioration… suffering… not much time”. Your lungs got ravaged so fast. I couldn’t fully take in what the nurse was saying — it didn’t feel real.”
Abby said that her first reaction was to share her frustration and anger with the hospital staff. “I caught myself and remembered that she was an innocent messenger working on the frontline of the pandemic, and I told her I was grateful for her,” she expressed.
When she realized that they were unable to be with her father during his final moments, she ‘felt a rush of fear and anguish.’
“The weight of this reality hit hard, the dam broke, and I sobbed, realizing I couldn’t go to be by your side,” Abby wrote.
When her father passed away, she wrote: “When I looked down at my phone, still connected to your hospital line, I wanted so badly to talk to you again, even though I knew you weren’t really there.point 273 |
