A woman, from Pittsburgh USA, was born without limbs due to congenital tetraphocomelia which affects all four limbs.
Amy Brooks has been defying the odds as she is still able to cook, write, and sew.
Amy shows how she does her day-to-day tasks without any limbs through her YouTube channel – “How Does She Do It?”
Amy’s biological parents abandoned her after she was born without any limbs and asked hospital staff to not feed her.
Janet and Richard Brooks adopted her after she was abandoned by her biological parents.
The 37-year-old is defying the odds and living her life like normal people. She can cook, write and even sew.
She said: “I obviously have to do things a lot differently than someone who is completely able-bodied but I’m able to do things just in a different way. Doctors in the beginning definitely doubted that I would be independent, my parents didn’t accept that answer so they always encouraged me.”
She wanted to encourage others so, she decided to start a YouTube channel. She shares videos of how she does her daily tasks on her YouTube channel.
She says learning how to sew was her biggest achievement.
She said: “It’s something that I didn’t think that I was able to do, it’s an extreme challenge but I love to do it.”
She sews and sells handbags through Facebook. She is also learning how to drive.
Her parents always supported and encouraged her. Her mother Janet said: “I didn’t want her to have a cushion life, but I never ever dreamt that she would be as independent and do as many things as she can do now”.
Amy is an inspiration to millions, especially to those who were born with disabilities. She said: “I love to be able to share my story with others, not because I feel like I do anything great, but I believe that my message is an important one for people out there, that we’re here for a reason and each one of us has a purpose.”
