A Dutch woman has recovered from the killer infection and became the oldest survivor of the pandemic.
107-year-old Cornelia Ras developed symptoms on March 17, one day after celebrating her birthday, according to Dutch newspaper AD.
According to the report, Ras attended a church service with other residents of her nursing home. Sadly, she and 40 others tested positive for coronavirus and 12 of them have passed away.
Ras was told by her doctors that she had recovered from the virus.
The 107-year-old’s niece, Maaike de Groot, told AD: “We did not expect her to survive this.
“She takes no medicines, still walks well and gets down on her knees every night to thank the Lord. From the looks of it, she will be able to continue to do so.”
As of April 9, there are 21,762 cases in Netherlands, with 2,396 fatalities.
Before Ras, the oldest coronavirus patient who recovered was 104-year-old Bill Lapschies from America who also survived the Spanish Flu pandemic and World War II.
Lapscies first showed symptoms of coronavirus on March 5 and was put into isolation at a veteran’s home.
In China, 103-year-old Zhang Guangfen recovered from coronavirus after a six-day treatment.
One internet user commented: “Those Dutch women, they’re made of strong stuff! Good luck to her for continuing good health. It’s interesting that quite a few people in this extreme age bracket have survived C-19.”
Another wrote: “The under 40s are the ones in danger, the older generation have the survival gene. Make the young stay indoors and they might just get through this.”
A third added: “Just to think she survived the 1918 flu and the 1944 famine and now this. What an amazing woman!”
