104-year-old Florence Teeters from Wisconsin just became the oldest person to purchase a gun deer license.
The Wisconsin centenarian managed to harvest her first buck in Price County during the opening day of the 9-day gun season 2019.
Teeters made history by becoming the oldest person to ‘purchase a gun deer license and harvest a deer,’ according to the state records of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
DNR Secretary-designee Preston D. Cole said in a statement: “This speaks to the adage that you should never underestimate the power of our senior citizens. After raising a family of hunters, this young lady chose this opportunity to partake in Wisconsin’s long-established tradition of deer hunting.”
The mother-of-five was inspired to get her hunting license after she went hunting with her son in 2018.
“Yes, it was her idea to get the license,” Bill Teeters told DNR. “And, yes, that was her first license.”
He also said that the two were talking for a couple of hours waiting at their cover device for a deer to approach.
“I tapped her on her knee, and I pointed,” Bill recalled.
Florence smiled and aimed her weapon, waiting for the best moment to take the shot. Then she shot the deer from a distance of 30 yards.
“She was so excited and saying,’ I got a buck! I got a buck!’”
One internet user commented: “You go, Grandma! She has her food for winter now.”
Another wrote: “So sad. Why do people find pleasure in taking the life of another living, breathing creature?”
A third said: “She has had a long life, but the deer did not.”
