A woman on TikTok has created a video demonstrating the burning of the Confederate flag after getting a lot of criticism for flying it.
She shows her audience that she is “redneck but never racist”.
Her full name is not fully revealed, but goes by “Danielle” according to her social media platform. The video has gotten a lot of traction and it shows the process of her cutting down the flag from the pole, and then proceeding to set it on fire.
In the caption she writes, “I’m sorry if I ever showed I was ‘racist’ from a flag.
We burnt it tonight!” She adds on, “I’m sorry our culture taught us this was okay, it’s not.I’m white, I’m redneck, but never racist.
RIP to this racist flag. ” No one knows where the woman is currently located. The Confederate flag has been a divisive and racist symbol that are tied with extremists that use the flag in order to invoke hate and ideas of white supremacy.
An example of provoking hate with this flag was during the Capitol Hill riots that occurred last January 6th, prompting outrage while carrying the flag into the government house.
The flag that Danielle burned was from the Army of Northern Virginia instead of the official flag, it has become a symbol.
A commenter asks Danielle if they can see more pizzazz, in which she shows more of the process being done. Another user asks what she thought the flag was about while growing up in which she responds, “I don’t really remember being taught about it in school. It wasn’t like ‘this is the flag’ or ‘this is what it means’, it wasn’t that.
”She adds that “In the South, everybody flies their flags, so it was more like, ‘Well everybody else is doing it so that’s something that we should do.”
In a follow up to the comment that asked to see more of the process, she shows the flag being burned and the commenter thinks that she is picturing something like a “bonfire.” Danielle received a tremendous amount of support, someone even commented, “Hell yes, we love to see it.”
People have also chimed in and said that they had respect and applauded the woman for becoming “self-aware.”
