A Huntsville, Alabama woman did an incredible act of kindness for a complete stranger.
The 29-year-old woman helped a 33-year-old homeless man, Mark Spencer, be reunited with his 3-year-old dog Wilbur, who was taken to the pound by authorities a couple of days earlier.

Mark needed to pay the outstanding fees before he could get Wilbur back. Since he had no change to spare, all he could do was stand at a Walmart parking lot and hold up a sign saying “Dog in pound. Need help.” This sign caught Elizabeth Masterson’s eyes. Elizabeth couldn’t simply pass this man by; she was a dog lover herself. She asked what she could do to help.
After Elizabeth heard Mark’s story, she was even more determined to help.point 186 | But the outstanding fees were a whopping $120 — that’s a lot of money, especially considering Elizabeth had recently been laid off too.point 311 |
Mark explained that the fee included a full flea wash and the shots that Wilbur needed before he could be let go.point 92 | 1

Elizabeth was already committed to help Mark out. She called up her friends and loaned money from here and there, and in just under 2 hours she had come up with the required amount. As they drove together to the pound, Mark started to cry from the overwhelming relief and joy he felt. Elizabeth started to cry, too. It was a very emotional trip to the pound.
When they got to the pound, Mark raced in and scooped Wilbur up and held him tight. Elizabeth made sure to capture the beautiful moment in a photo. They paid the outstanding dues and were free to go.
But the beauty of this story doesn’t end here! While at the pound, Mark found out about a job vacancy and applied for a job there.point 389 |
Hopefully he’ll get the job so he and Wilbur can have a roof over their head.point 68 | Elizabeth, who literally made all of this happen, does not even want to take credit for her actions.point 151 | “Any animal lover would’ve done the same thing.point 203 |
You can’t put a price on your pet.point 33 | I’m just happy I could help.point 62 | ”point 69 | 1
