An American food blogger has sparked outrage online after her bizarre salad recipe went viral.
Molly Yeh appeared on her popular Food Network show Girl Meets Farm and left her viewers shocked when she presented her ‘Crunchy Snap Pea Popcorn Salad.’
The chef said that the classic mid-Western meal, which comprises of vegetables, mayonnaise, and popcorn, is usually seen in a church basement potluck.
“Some people will put fish in it as well. You don’t think it’s going to work, but when you taste it, it’s really good,” Molly explained.
To prepare the sauce, she combined sour cream, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, pepper and salt.
Molly then mixed it with chopped celery, carrots and snap pears before adding the mixture to the cheese-flavored popcorn. She then garnished it with chopped watercress.
“What it looks like you’re getting a salad, but you look underneath you see a pile of popcorn,” she said.
“That is my kind of salad. This is the kind of salad you eat with a spoon.”
Molly then took a spoonful of her popcorn salad and said: “That is crunch on crunch on crunch, and I love the white cheddar powder.
“This salad is going to crunch… I mean, crush, at our party.”
However, many viewers were left disgusted with the dish and said Food Network should be ‘shut down’ for airing such episode.
One person commented: “’I love the texture of the popcorn in the salad’ is literally where I stopped the video…how bad was it?”
Another wrote: “This was on FOOD NETWORK? Shut it down.”
A third added: “If you bring me out some soggy mayo popcorn I will be going to jail that day.”
