The 44-year-old woman who shouted “I’m pregnant’ before she was shot dead by an officer was not an expectant mother, police revealed.
Baytown Police Lt. Steve Dorris from Texas said in a statement that Pamela Turner was in fact not pregnant.
Turner grabbed the officer’s Taser and struck him in the groin. The cop then opened fire five times and she was hit at least once.
As per department policy, the officer has been put on paid administrative leave.
He was patrolling the Brixton Apartments complex on Monday night when he tried to arrest Turner as he knew he had outstanding warrants, police reported.
In the video shared on social media, Turner can be heard saying: “I’m actually walking to my house” and “You’re actually harassing me.”
The 44-year-old woman reached toward the officer and shouted: “I’m pregnant.” He later fired five bullets, killing Turner.
In an interview with KPRC, Turner’s sister, Antoinette, said the woman had two children and three grandchildren. She also revealed that Turner had been taking medication for schizophrenia.
Antoinette said the officer who shot her sister was Turner’s neighbor and that she had previously complained about the man harassing her.
According to court records, Turner had three warrants out for her arrest on two counts of criminal mischief and a charge of assault resulting in bodily harm.
Turner’s criminal history included an arrest on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Baytown Police Lieutenant Dorris wrote on Facebook: “It is very early in the investigation however what detectives have learned thus far is one of our officers, an 11 year veteran with the department, was patrolling an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Garth Road when he came across a 45-year-old female that he knew from previous encounters and knew she had outstanding warrants.
“The officer contacted the female and attempted to arrest her at which time a struggle ensued, forcing the officer to deploy his department issued Taser at the female.
“It appears that as the officer was then attempting to handcuff the female she was able to gain control of his Taser and turned it on the officer, Tasing the officer, which forced the officer to draw his duty weapon and fire multiple rounds at the female, striking her at least once.”
