A mother who was waiting for a bus with her three kids allegedly called a woman of color a “good little slave” for wearing a face mask.
The incident occurred in Pasco County, Florida, where 30-year-old Megan Charleton was confronted by a woman who began criticizing her for wearing a face mask before entering a public bus.
After Charleton retaliated and began recording, the woman was heard saying: “You’re wearing your mask like all the rest of the slaves out there.”
Enraged by the comment, Charleton responded by saying: “You’re telling me, a woman of color, be a good little slave.” Defending her comments, the woman claimed that she too is a woman of color because she is Mexican.
Following the confrontation, Charleton shared the footage on her Instagram where she explained that the woman in the video first approached her to ask about the time of the arrival of the bus.
After Charleton explained the bus arrives once per hour, the woman allegedly accused her of being wrong before calling the dispatch to verify the information.
“As I’m on the phone and the bus is pulling up, Karen comes up to me an say in a nasty ass tone ‘I called they said it’s every 30 minutes’ so I said ‘okay, I’ve lived here 20 years it’s always been once an hour but okay’ I then hang up the phone with my mom,” Charleton wrote.
“As the bus pulls to a stop I go to put on my mask because Pasco County has a mask mandate and this woman proceeds to tell me ‘that’s right be a good little slave.’”
