Kelly has a supportive husband who says that her smell has negatively affected him but he never complained as he understands her situation.

Mrs. Fidoe-White said: “Michael has helped me to cope by making me see the funny side of the condition. I am sure he won’t mind me saying this, but he produces his own smell anyway!”

Mrs. Fidoe-White talked about her teenage days where she experienced a lot of bullying due to her ‘fish odour’.

She said: “There was more than one occasion where I would say: “I’ve had fish paste sandwiches for my lunch,” when kids would say “you smell like fish”. That was difficult to deal with as a teenager.”

Mrs. Fidoe-White’s night shift buddies, Faysal Bashir, and Asha Feroz also support her and feel upset when people make comments about her body odour.

Mrs. Fidoe-White has tried everything to mask the smell but nothing worked. She says she is more chilled about it now as she deals with it by educating people now.

It is definitely tough for her when people make comments and complain about her odour but she says, “there is no magic pill that you can take to make it better, I personally take a cocktail of medications”.

“One of the things they [the doctors] turn around and say to you is: “If it smells going in, it’s going to smell going out”. So things like fish and seafood are major triggers.”
