The woman who shouted at a Starbucks barista and shamed him online for refusing to serve her as she wasn’t wearing a face mask now wants half of the money raised for him on GoFundMe.
Amber Lynn Gilles blasted the employee in a Facebook post: “Meet lenen from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I’m not wearing a mask. Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption.”
Her post drew negative remarks and people decided to give the hardworking barista tips, with the GoFundMe page set up for him accumulating more than $100K.
Matt Cowan, who launched the GoFundMe campaign for Gutierrez, told ABC10: “I set it at $1,000 thinking that was a reach but we would be lucky if we hit like $250 and when we hit $100 I was overwhelmed by that.”
The fundraiser has collected over $100k in donations but Gilles said she wants half of the money “because they’re using me to get it.”
She added: “They’re using my name, they’re using my face, and they’re slandering me.”
The furious woman also threatened to sue Cowan, claiming slander and defamation.
The hardworking barista, Gutierrez, said in an interview with ABC10 that he plans to use the funds to pursue a college degree and give portions to charity.
“Everything I wanted to do seemed very far away, but with all that’s going on, it seems more within my reach. Everyone showed my kindness, so now I want to show it back,” he expressed.
In a statement to CBS 8, Starbucks said: “We want everyone to feel welcome in our stores. We respectfully request customers follow social distancing and safety protocols recommended by public health officials, including wearing a facial covering when visiting our stores.”
