A precious incident occurred at a shoe store in Muntinlupa City, Philippines, when a woman noticed another customer named Rexel walked into a shoe store, wearing an old pair of slippers, rugged pants, and worn-out shirt.
Rexel, likely to be in his early 40s, looked very excited to be able to purchase new shoes after all his hard work.
It was Caloy Pineda, the store manager, who shared the heartwarming story on Facebook.
Pineda wrote on Facebook: “You can see that he looks hard working, like he works difficult jobs.”
Rexel checked some shoes at the discount section and chose a pair of shoes priced at Php1,200 ($22). He then took out his hard-earned savings, all Php20 notes, and started counting.
However, he realized he didn’t have enough money to buy the shoes.
That’s when Lilliam Quiat, who was also shopping for a pair of shoes, spotted Rexel counting his money. She then approached him for a conversation.
Quiat then learned that Rexel had been saving up so he could buy a World Balance sneakers because his slippers were already bad. She then decided to help him so he could buy the shoes.
The woman persuaded him to choose a pair of shoes he really wanted to have. After convincing him, Rexel finally selected the shoes he liked priced at Php1,799 ($33).
Since the pair exceeded Rexel’s budget, Quiat offered to pay for the remaining amount.
Quiat later told the manager she actually wanted to pay for the full amount but she didn’t bring her wallet at that time. “(Amount) was the last of my money,” Quiat said to Pineda.
Rexel was very happy to have the new pair of shoes he wanted and needed, thanks to a kindhearted woman he just stumbled upon inside the shoe store.
