The family of a 34-year-old woman who passed away in her home in Los Angeles are suing the police officer who was caught fondling her breast after she had died.
It is not clear how Elizabeth Baggett died but LAPD officer David Rojas was one of the cops who responded to her home.
As soon as his partner left the room, officer Rojas switched off his bodycam and fondled Baggett’s breasts without knowing the device continue recording for two minutes after being turned off.
Police bosses checked Rojas’ bodycam footage and were shocked by what they found.
Rojas was fired but pleaded not guilty to sexual contact with dead body without authority.
Elizabeth’s family are now suing the former officer and other cops who watched the video, alleging it inflicted emotional distress on them.
During a press conference, Elizabeth’s mother, Janet, said her daughter was ‘full of life.’
Lawyer Gloria Allred read a statement from Elizabeth’s son, 15-year-old Preston: “My trust in the police to do the right thing has been violated. That was my mother.
“(Rojas’) behavior was vile. He does not deserve to be a police officer.”
Allred also said in a statement: “The unexpected loss of Elizabeth has been devastating for this family, and learning that she and her remains have been so disrespected and violated has compounded the loss and inflicted horrific pain and suffering on her loved ones.
“Learning, too, that the video of her alleged sexual molestation has been viewed by others sickens them and is deeply disturbing.
“So many woman are sexually abused during their lifetime, and now we learn that some are even sexually victimized after their deaths.”
He added: “To add insult to injury, the knowledge that a police officer, during the course of his investigation of the death of a young woman, would take advantage of his position of power and trust to allegedly sexually abuse the body of a deceased person is very upsetting.
“It is not only against the law, but it is also against all sense of human decency.”
