A woman has been caught on CCTV camera throwing a bag of seven newborn puppies into a trash bin in Coachella.
The woman is now being hunted by police.
CCTV footage released by the Riverside County Animal Services shows the cruel woman pulling up in a jeep and throwing a plastic bag into a trash bin behind a shop in Coachella, California.
The plastic bag that she threw had seven newborn puppies in it.
A good Samaritan named John found the puppies in the trash bin outside a Napa Auto Parts store and rescued them.
Authorities said the puppies may not have survived had they not been found within an hour of being dumped due to the 90-degree heat.
Department of Animal Services Commander Chris Mayer said: “The good Samaritan played a major role in saving these puppies’ lives. His actions were humane and heroic.”
“There is no excuse for dumping puppies. Especially in today’s age when we or other shelters would be willing to get these animals to foster parents or rescue partners. This was a shameful act.”
Police are now searching for the woman.
John Welsh, the chief of the Riverside County Department of Animal Services said: “You can clearly see the bag of puppies being dumped into the dumpster. There’s clearly not a level of intelligence that’s going to be used if you’re going to toss animals.”
The Animal Services department, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney working together to build an animal cruelty case against the woman.
