A woman has given birth to triplets after being rushed to the hospital thinking she was suffering from kidney stones.
While Dannette and Austin Giltz expected to return home from their hospital visit with a few kidney stones less, the couple from Sturgis, South Dakota, made it back with three additional family members.
Rather than undergoing the removal of kidney stones, Dannette was taken to a delivery room where she delivered triplets via C-section in a matter of just four minutes.
“I started getting pains, I figured it was kidney stones because I’ve went through them before,” the woman said in an interview with KOTA TV.
Much to the couple’s surprise, the pains turned out to be caused not by one, nor by two, but by their three babies.
“It was quiet, we thought they were done. Austin’s over there, kind of like rocking like, thinking of the names and then she’s like well we need another blanket and his reaction is like excuse me, put it back, no, I was told I have twins, I’m not doing triplets,” Dannette said of her delivery.
“She’s like no, there’s three babies in here, there’s triplets.”
Recalling the events following the birth of Nikki, Gypsy, and Blaze, Austin added:
“Once we left the hospital, she’s out of the hospital, I know she’s okay. I’m overwhelmed honestly, it’s still exploding in my head.”
As for Dannette, she admitted that she and her family and friends are still dumbfounded by the turn of the events.
“You don’t ever see triplets being conceived naturally, let alone going 34 weeks without knowing,” she admitted.
“So, everyone’s like I can’t believe it, I’m like we’re still in shock, trust me, we know what you mean like I go to the doctor’s thinking I’ll have surgery for kidney stones and end up going into labour with a c-section that night. It’s crazy.”
