Ashley Bemis is one of those people that could have fooled you behind a computer screen, faking identities until she got caught recently.
Not everything on the Internet is private, but some people will believe everything they see because it looks valid and concise. There are people who will do harm and manipulate someone’s posts, even if they are not in personal relations with others.
Mother, Emily Strickland, gave birth to her son in 2010. Being a full time mother and employee, she needed someone to take care of him while she was out, in which she found Ashley Bemis — supposed nanny.
Blake, Stricklands’ son, started to grow an attachment to Bemis, leaving a good impression to his mother that his nanny would take care of him well. Not only was Bemis good with Stricklands’ son, Emily herself grew close to the nanny and they became best friends over time.
Stricklands finds out that Bemis was expecting a baby of her own after 14 months of working with her, and with the intentions of being a good nanny, the mother believed that she would also become a good mother.
Since Bemis would go through some pregnancy struggles, Stricklands convinced her to go home early and take some time off as a nanny. She didn’t want to make the pregnancy too difficult. While Bemis was walking home, Stricklands looked over to ensure her safety but saw her pull out a pillow, creating a big shock for the mother. Was it all a lie?
Working with the Internet privacy once more, Stricklands dug deep into the Internet and found a page that was made by Bemis that included her baby in the posts. She asked herself, why was she doing this?
While looking through Bemis’ profiles, she realized that there were pictures of her and another baby, though there is no face to match it up with. So who was the baby exactly?
It was Stricklands’ baby, Blake. Bemis had been posing with Blake to post on social media, covering it up as her own baby. She was fired immediately after Stricklands discovered this.
Bemis covered up Blake’s real identity, disguising him as her daughter under the name of “Cheyenne.” She would tell people that her baby was seriously ill, asking for donations and would appreciate the help. Even after she had been fired, Bemis discovered ways to scam others into her lies.
Befriending another mother named Katie, she calls her up and cries about how her son was in a “fatal cat accident.” But Stricklands found a way to contact Katie, revealing the truth.
This didn’t stop Bemis from creating a fake life, pretending she was pregnant and her husband had passed away from a terminal illness. The nanny tripped over her own lies, conning a total of eight children.
Bemis is now in jail.
