We celebrate our wedding, birthdays and anniversaries, but, it is very strange when someone celebrates their divorce.
A 47-year-old woman has gone viral for celebrating her divorce with a grand photo shoot that included wine, knee-high boots, and a wedding photo burning session.
Pictures to mark the end of her marriage include one where she burns her wedding photo and another showing off the papers that completed the split from her husband of 13 years Quinton Eaton. The shots have proved so popular online that people are now thanking Marie, 47, for inspiring them to leave their own rubbish relationships.
Marie said she wanted to represent ‘strong powerful women’ who ‘have the strength to carry on’ after her relationship broke down when her husband became addicted to crystal meth and ended up spending time behind bars.
She told MailOnline: ‘I wanted to show that strong women can be empowered to move on and be happy. It’s okay to be happy again.
‘I wanted a way to close a chapter in my life my way, and celebrate finally making it official. ‘I’m stronger and I’m happy with my life,’ she said.
‘I’m blessed with a good man and family and close friends.’ Meanwhile, her photoshoot has gained more than 59,000 likes and 10,000 retweets on Twitter.
Although Marie and Quinton were separated for years, their divorce was only finalized this month.
Marie said: ‘We honestly didn’t realize this would go so viral. ‘I think everyone is shocked and abused that someone actually stepped out of the normal and did something bold.’
Some people were a bit more critical of her going to all of this effort just to celebrate divorce, but it didn’t seem to faze Marie, who is just glad her marriage is officially over.
Natasa Lollis, who is married to Marie’s brother and runs Tiltin’ My Lens Photography helped set up the photo shoot, in which Marie holds up heels with ‘est 2006’ and ‘Done 2019’ printed on the bottom.
Marie says her marriage wasn’t always filled with such heartache, describing her ex as ‘a good man’ when he wasn’t on drugs.
‘It’s sad how meth can change a person,’ she added. Eaton is currently in jail, awaiting trial for eight charges of larceny.
