Sue, a nurse at Ashlynn Grange care home, in Peterborough, was cleaning the kennel of the 90kg crossbreed when the dog attacked her.
He locked its teeth around her right arm while her husband and a friend tried to save her from the attack.
But, the dog refused to let her go.
She says the attack “seemed to last for hours” and finally, the dog let her go.
She said: “After what seemed like hours my husband heard me and tried to pull the dog away but was unable to do so. I remember thinking that I would have a few broken bones when he finished.’”
“But at that time I looked down and saw my right hand lying on the concrete in a pool of blood.”
She was rushed to the hospital after the East Anglian Air Ambulance arrived at the scene with two doctors, a paramedic, and police.
An East Anglian Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “The Anglia Two team of Doctor Pam Chrispin, Doctor Antonia Hazlerigg, CCP Mark Milsom and Pilots Rosh Jaypalan and Martin Polding were tasked at 12:24 and arrived on the scene in Wisbech at 12:46.”
“They administered pain relief and antibiotics at scene before packaging Sue and flying her to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, arriving at 13:39.”
Despite losing her right hand, she is grateful she is alive. She said: “I might have lost part of my arm but I am alive and will always be grateful to the crew”.
After the attack, the dog was put down.
Sue is grateful to the East Anglian Air Ambulance service and is now raising funds to keep them going.
