The Taiwanese woman who scaled mountains in a bikini and became famous as ‘Bikini Hiker,’ died freezing in a national park.
Gigi Wu, aged 36, who was a self-proclaimed ‘The Bikini Hiker’, fell in a crevasse while posting an update on social media. She was on a solo climbing expedition on Yushan National Park. It is reported that after a few weeks of her solo expedition, she called a friend through a satellite phone. Her friend quoted Gigi conveyed the news of her fall.
Black Hawk helicopters launched a thorough search expedition to save her. However, they faced impediments due to the bad weather. After the pacification of the weather, the rescue team found the body of Gigi after 28 hours, who died out of freezing cold.
According to Nantou fire service, Gigi conveyed the message of her accident to them. They said Gigi fell more than 65ft into a deep and narrow crevasse. The 36 years old hiker has a significant number of followers on social media like Facebook and Instagram.
According to Gigi, she got stuck at an abysmal point and not able to move as she was badly injured.
According to the island’s National Airborne Service Corps, they tried for consecutive three times to launch a rescue operation with Black Hawk helicopters to the incident spot, but the poor weather became their prime obstacle.
They said that after the weather became calm, they launched the search operation with a team comprises of three people. The rescue team found Gigi Wu’s body in the ravine.
According to the rescuers, they were waiting for the weather to calm down so that they can airlift the body from the narrow spot. In order to perform the task, they set up a camp near the incident spot.
According to the commander of Nantou Country Fire Department’s Third Squadron, Lin Cheng-I, Wu’s body was found from the altitude of 5577 feet above sea level.
Wu used to post stunning bikini-clad pictures of hers from the various expedition. She had quite a large number of followers on social media.
According to her social media post, she spent 127 days hiking. From her recent social media post, she updated a picture of her bruised legs by calling herself a fortunate survivor on an expedition, is found.
