32-year-old Turia Putt shared a photo of herself sitting comfortably on a plane and revealed how a man at the airport told her that she looks like ‘a can of baked beans’.
The pregnant burns survivor took it as a compliment and told her followers that she still has some questions about what the man actually meant.
“A very sweet man at the airport just told me that if you could personify a can of baked beans, it’d be me,” she expressed.
“It was meant as a very kind compliment (and I took it that way) but… I have questions,” Turia added. “Firstly, what is it about baked beans that reminds you of me? Their bland, formless shape? Their soft exterior? The slightly sweet, hammy sauce they’re suspended in?
“Am I the sort of bean you eat in a sad, cold, straight from the tin sort of way? Or am I served in a steaming pool, atop hot buttered toast, with a side of crispy bacon, in your kitchen on a winters morning?”
She concluded by saying she “needs answers.”
Her Instagram followers quickly shared their thoughts, with one saying that it was “absolutely a compliment” as baked beans are “down-to-earth and comforting.”
Another commented: “Love how you’ve laughed along with him. Most things can be viewed positively, it’s how we choose to handle it.”
But many took it as an insult while others asked what the stranger looked like.
In an interview with Stellar magazine, Turia said that the arrival of her son, Hakawvai, changed all of her goal posts in life.
“I no longer have any desire to do an Ironman. Having a baby has changed me and when you become a mum you quickly realise your whole life fits in around your kids,” she expressed.
“I don’t want to be out running for five hours straight. I know how precious life is and I’d rather be with my son.”
