According to shocking studies, around one-third of women admitted to engaging in the so-called ‘foodie call’ in order to get a free meal from their date.
As the researchers found out, 23 to 33 percent of women reported going on a date with a person they weren’t romantically interested in simply because they wanted free food.
The claims come after two studies questioned women about their dating habits.
In the first study which was published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science, the researchers found out at least 23 percent of 820 women questioned engage or did engage in the ‘foodie call.’
The answers also revealed a large portion deemed the act acceptable while the majority of the 23 percent expressed they use their dates to get free food rarely or occasionally.
In another study, a similar series of questions were presented to 357 heterosexual women. As the researchers concluded, over 33% of women questioned had engaged in foodie calls in their past.
On top of the shocking results, people were also quick to suggest that the real number of women engaging in foodie calls might be much higher as not everyone would willingly admit to doing so.
“Several dark traits have been linked to deceptive and exploitative behavior in romantic relationships, such as one-night stands, faking an orgasm, or sending unsolicited sexual pictures,” the study co-author and Associate Professor Dr. Brian Collisson revealed.
While the exact number of foodie calls taking place in our society couldn’t be determined using the current data, Dr. Collisson suggested:
“They could be more prevalent, for instance, if women lied or misremembered their foodie calls to maintain a positive view of their dating history.”
Following the release of the results, engaging in ‘foodie calls’ has been compared to instances in which people go on dates solely in hopes of having a one-night stand.
