Two women physically brawling is not a common sight anywhere.
When the fight takes place in the jet bridge on a crowded airport while all the other passengers watch the scuffle, that’s a sight that not many can even imagine. However, that’s what happened on Sunday.
A video that one of the passengers, Destiny Davis, filmed of the two women brawling as passengers made way to board the airplane has gone viral online. All the passengers were getting ready to board a Delta Air from LaGuardia Airport to Atlanta.
The brawl is obviously very physical, making it clear that it wasn’t some attention seeking action so much as an actual fight. In the footage, while the other passengers and crew members try to understand what is happening in front of their eyes, one tells his companion that the two are fighting.
Davis, who filmed the footage, said she believes the two women are related to each other either as cousins or sisters. She also recalled that those who were at the scene more or less did not intervene into the situation, and that it took time for the police to show up.
However, while the fight might have ended in a relatively relaxed and peaceful way when the police showed up, the experience was not over for the rest of the passengers.
When the police came and settled the scene, they had to escort the 2 women out from the plane and the airport. This meant that the other passengers had to wait an additional half hour on the plane as the crew unloaded the women’s luggages that were loaded up.
It is unclear what the compensation regulation for a unique situation like this one is. A spokesperson for the airline said that the flight was delayed for “customer issues”, implying that they will likely not take responsibility for the situation.
New York and New Jersey officials has not disclosed any further information on the incident. Therefore, the details of the brawl – such as the cause and the severity of injuries- is not yet clear.
