A renowned doctor has spoken out and claimed that women should ‘manspread’ while sitting down in order to avoid medical problems.
Since most women are annoyed by men spreading their legs wide, especially when they do it in public, they have never considered copying them.
According to the etiquette guidebooks dating almost a millennium back in time, women are supposed to sit with their knees pressed together tightly.
Now, however, Texas-based orthopedic surgeon Barbara Bergin urged women to join the man in manspreading in order to protect their joints.
After Bergin developed a painful joint condition known as bursitis, she ran some tests and figured out her pain was worse when her knees were pressed closely together.
According to the surgeon, ‘ladylike’ sitting positions encourage the misalignment of knee and hip joints which may result in pain and inflammation.
“Observe men: they’re usually sitting with their legs slightly apart and pressed slightly outward,” Bergin suggested.
“A lot of my patients will say, ‘Oh, you want me to manspread.’ That’s too far the other way. We want [to position legs at] about 11 and 1 o’clock.”
She also went on to slam high heels and tight shoes that are often a necessity when it comes to corporate dress codes.
“If you see 100 people with painful bunions or hammer toes, 95 of them are women, and it’s from jamming [their toes] down into tight, pointy shoes,” she added. “We are definitely better off not wearing heels or wearing them as little as possible.”
While plenty of women still find ‘womanspreading’ inappropriate, the sitting pose is gaining popularity and has been rated the 10th most popular in a BadGirlsBible poll.
