There is a limited number of genes in the world, and scientists have confirmed that there is a chance for every one of us to have a doppelganger without us ever being aware of their existence.
17-year-old Sara Nordstroem from Sweden and 21-year-old Shannon Lonergan from Ireland are two strangers who look exactly alike.
“It’s like a stranger but you know them. You can trust them because they look like you. There was no awkwardness ever,” Shannon said of her doppelganger.
After meeting each other for the first time, Shannon and Sara were determined to learn more about what makes them look like twins.
For that reason, they paid a visit to Professor Tim Spector who analyzed their faces and concluded they had a 90% facial similarity despite not being related at all.
And the two women are not alone. According to experts, there is a 1 in 135 chance that there is a doppelganger with identical looks to yours somewhere out there.
Ireland-based Niamh Geaney set on the journey to find her own doppelgangers only to discover that she has at least three doubles.
“It’s really cool but it’s weird. You meet these people who look almost completely like you, but yet behind that you have different personality traits… even though you look the exact same,” she revealed in an interview with Sunday Night.
“You think you’re special and unique and there’s no one in the world that’s like you, and then you meet someone who looks identical to you and you realize you’re not as unique as you thought you were.”
In another instance, doppelgangers John Jemison and Neil Richardson discovered they not only shared their looks but also their interests and lifestyle.
