The women, who run a Facebook page called Bristol and Somerset Missing Dogs, came to know about the disappearance of a rescue dog Zena.
They started searching for her using spy cameras, night goggles and a make-shift trap filled with meatballs. After tracking her down for 15 weeks, the women finally were able to find the dog.
The rescue dog Zena was living at her new rescue home in Bristol but one night she disappeared.
The two-year-old was spotted several times wandering around the city. They spent a month searching for her but couldn’t find her.
After a month, they started a GoFundMe page to raise £500 to buy a wildlife camera and night-vision goggles.
Zena was finally found nearly after four months when the trio put a cage with garlic sausage, butcher’s tripe, and Swedish meatballs.
Ms. Spiller said: “I just can’t believe we actually managed to catch her. But we wouldn’t have stopped until we did. Because she is a rescue dog her first instinct was to bolt off.”
“She had only been with her new foster family for two weeks. We all work during the day so we’d have our dinner and meet up in the evening.”
When the women discovered the dog had been living in Blaise Castle Park, they started putting disposable BBQ every night.
Ms. Spiller said: “When we first started looking it was during the summer so there would be people hanging around the park being loud, which spooked her.”
“That happened for a few weeks which was really frustrating. But we still stayed out just in case we spotted her.”
After installing the cameras, it became easier for them to spot the dog. They set up a trap and watched it from one of their houses as they live nearby.
Ms. Spiller said: “We soon realised she wasn’t a fan of things like fish, tuna, mackerel or anything fishy really. So we switched it to meats and fresh wet food. It was quite expensive in the end. We must have spent about £500 which came out of our own pocket.”
Eventually, they managed to find the dog and were just behind the bushes when they caught her.
