As per the claims made by the experts, it is said that the coffins belong to the third intermediate period which started with the death of Pharaoh Ramesses XI in 1070 BC, which means that the coffins, if belong to the same periods, are almost 3000 years old.

In the third intermediate period, the kind of coffins had become a common practice as people had started to move away from the common burial practice inside tombs, says Dr. Roland Enmarch, Egyptology at the University of Liverpool.

He also said that in the past years, a few more such coffins were found in the same region.

The era which the coffins belong to was the era of priests. In the region, the priests had started ruling although there was still a pharos present in some part of ancient Egypt but most of Egypt was being ruled by priests.

This is why it is being believed that the coffins belonged to priests.
